Prototype In-Line Coaters

More than ever, evolving demands are requiring new thin-film solutions. Before investing in full-scale production of a novel technology, smart companies are seeing the wisdom in VPT’s unique approach: the one-of-a-kind prototype. Unlike most of our competition, VPT understands the value in this intermediate step between an original solution and volume production. In fact, we consider it one of our core strengths.

We start by listening to our customer’s ideas and requirements. Their input becomes the basis for a design concept. Next, VPT designs, fabricate and assembles the system—in house. Our comprehensive in-house capabilities—which includes cutting, bending and welding the raw steel plates—gives VPT a flexibility and time-saving advantage few can match.

Depending on the need, we’ll either use standard, modular vacuum compartments, or we’ll devise a hybrid coater, with a combination of standard and customized vacuum chambers. The possible combinations are as varied as the potential applications.

Process development is often the next step. It may involve the testing of new materials, thin-film layer combinations, substrate materials, deposition technology, or all of the above—and we do it all in our facility in Plymouth, MA. After factory testing, we’ll install and test the prototype at the customer’s site. Once it’s up and running, we can start thinking about scaling up for full production.
